When it comes to working out and setting a routine, there is often a very common question that pops up in our mind…how long should I workout? We are all getting increasingly busy juggling our lives between work, school, family, and having a social life that saving any bit of time to get a workout in is crucial. How long you should workout is depending on what type of workout you want and how intense you want your workout to be- a long, slow workout may not bring you the same results as a quick, intense workout.
So how long should you workout?
The workout videos created here at Valeo Fit are short, intense workouts that can be done in as little as 5 minutes. Of course, if you want to get the most out of the workout you would have to repeat the cycle a few times to really get that heart rate up. You can get a great workout in and start seeing results, with a consistent routine, even if you workout for only 30 minutes. You don’t have to spend an hour or more at the gym to have had an effective workout. Work smarter, not harder!
If you do decide on high intensity workouts, the workout should be cut into intervals which will bring your heart rate up. You have to think in terms of “level of exertion”. Push yourself to a level 10 during your HIIT (high intensity interval training) to achieve maximum results.
What if you aren’t seeing results?
Remember results don’t show up overnight. You need to have a consistent workout routine, plus implement healthy eating habits. Aside from this, you may not be doing your workouts to the right intensity. If you decided to minimize your workout time from 1 hour to 20 minutes to save time, make sure to also switch up your workout. You should not be doing the same 60 minute workout at the same intensity translated into a 20 minute time frame. Your level of intensity is going to have a greater impact on your results than simply clocking minutes! You need to push yourself and max out during that 20/30 minute workout. Break through the limits and get uncomfortable if you want to see change.
How often should you work out?
There isn’t a magic number on how long you should workout. The main goal is that when you do these workouts you will reach a whole new level of intensity. It’s not about quantity or length of time, it’s about quality of the time spent exercising.
